Certification Overview
Certification is a process that is unique to each Participant. Someone who attends a DCM training, may elect to seek Certification.
A person who is making a conscious effort to meet the requirements of certification is referred to as a Practitioner (DCMP). Because certification is based on performance, and not attendance, every Practitioner has the freedom and flexibility to move at his/her own pace.
Once a Practitioner feels that he/she has fulfilled all the requirements for certification, he/she contacts his/her Trainer to become a Candidate. Candidates attend DCM Training Programs where their skills, knowledge and abilities are assessed by a Trainer. Candidates who meet all certification criteria receive Drum Circle Music Certification and the status, DCMF (Drum Circle Music Facilitator)
DCMFs that wish to deepen their practice may elect to seek the status of Trainer (DCMT)
Drum Circle Music Certification requires each students to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and competencies in several areas. Those areas fall into four main categories:

A Certified DCM Facilitator is someone who:
• has all the skills, knowledge, strategies, and ability to create meaningful rhythm-based events using the DCM approach
• can demonstrate the playing and use a variety of World Percussion instruments
• is able to demonstrate a variety of movement qualities and link them to musical and community models.
• is able to demonstrate knowledge and ability to use spoken word, chants, poem and songs in a group setting.
• is able to facilitate a developmental group process, self-teaching and authentic learning through music and movement.
• is able to design and implement variety of programs for different populations, and show how those programs produce results.
• loves their work.

How will DCM certification help me?
DCM has been shown to improve one's personal drumming skills, sense of rhythm and musicality; boost personal confidence, creativity, and presentation skills; and foster a greater sense of health and well being.
A DCMF is qualified to present programs for a variety of populations including children, well-elderly, men's and women's groups, at-risk teens, work-groups, organizations, community groups, spirituality groups, and those seeking health-oriented activities.
DCM Certification greatly enhances other professional skill sets including; music education, music therapy, human resource development, group facilitation, community music instruction, activity direction, coaching, therapy, counseling, and more.
