DCM Certification is a multi-step process that requires the student to demonstrate competency in DCM skills and knowledge. Steps to certification include:

- reading Together in Rhythm.
- completing a DCM course*.
- presenting and logging a minimum of 10 sessions.
- passing a writen multiple-choice test.
- demonstrating competency with instruments and activities.
- completing two written program design assignments.
- designing and presenting one 60-minute session for video review.

* In some cases, certification is possible through coaching and distance learning.
